Critics Consensus

Nicole Holofcener's newest might seem slight in places, but its rendering of complex characters in a conflicted economic landscape is varied, natural, and touching all the same.

Though some may argue that the film doesn't fully challenge white female privilege (or tire of Kate's crying), it's to the film's credit that it uses this as character detail and tries to mine humor and social commentary from it.

Funny at times, Please Give is a surprisingly heartwarming coming-of-age film for six adults all passing through different stages of heir life.

This movie shows that even if you try hard to make money, you may not be able to achieve it. The director did a great job.

In my opinion, the movie uses very good camera and audio visual equipment and the crew members and the filmmakers have played their roles very well. I really liked it.

This is a very very small scale ensemble, folks living in NYC movie. It was pretty funny and very human. A bit plotless, but that can be okay if you have strong characters, and this one does.

Nicole Holofcener can do no wrong. The biggest cinematic failing is that we are not availed more of her auteur greatness at a more regular interval. She is a master, an original, and this film (as well as all of her written/directed by films) is nothing short of fantastic!

Catherine Keener and Oliver Platt make a lovely couple, even if he’s a horny schmuck. Sarah Steele as their daughter works. Good movie. Simple. 👍🏻
