Like “The Hateful Eight” or “The Thing” or “The Thing from Another World” or “The Shining” or whatever you get the point. Unfortunately the audio quality of this little film has become almost unwatchable. So much dialogue is lost, it deserves a proper remaster. As for the actual quality of the film, all I’m gonna say is it’s not bad or good. It’s in the middle, like when you drink warm water. No feelings one way or the other. The story was kind of cool because of the way they fell in love and both turned out to be criminals but that’s about it. I’d like to see a remake of this because it could totally be done on a shoe string budget and so much better. 1.5/5 stars. See more Steve D @RT35616104 12/20/2023 Not even the acting is good. See more 03/04/2021 I was delighted to find High Voltage streaming on Amazon, after seeing a photograph of Lombard and Ellis together, taken during the filming. The movie has a very similar set up to Tarantino's The Hateful Eight (2015): a group of people, including the law & his female criminal, traveling in the American west, take refuge in a secluded one-room building during a blizzard, with another criminal already there. How the inhabitants behave, however, is quite dissimilar, as are the "morals" of the stories, so to speak. For a pre-Code film, High Voltage is ultimately pretty square. Five strangers taking a bus through snowy Nevada end up stranded in a makeshift church with a burly, brooding stranger not too keen to share his food. Some of the clunkiness of early talkies is evident. The dialogue isn't too witty, and the actors are often stationary. Still Carole Lombard's appeal remains.
