Critics Consensus

100 Nights of Hero is an uneven, whimsical fairy tale whose sumptuous visuals, playful performances and inventive moments are often undermined by a thin, surface-level narrative.

The nested tales Hero tells may work beautifully on the page, but on screen they repeatedly bring the film to a halt. Every time it threatens to gather momentum, another fairy tale arrives. At barely 90 minutes, it does drag on.

...100 Nights of Hero is a queer feminist fairytale purporting to be a celebration of the power of storytelling. But it barely comes to life as a story, as opposed to a costume party that writer-director Julia Jackman has thrown for her friends.

A queer, feminist fairy tale with striking visuals and a magnetic Emma Corrin, 100 Nights of Hero turns storytelling into an act of resistance. Its playful camp charm is undeniable, even if its ambitious ideas never become quite as daring as they promise.

Jackman overcomes some redundancy, though she tempers the playful tone as the moral demands sacrifice. [Full review in Spanish]

Had [Julia Jackman] given the characters more depth during the rewrites of her adaptation, we would undoubtedly be talking about a much better film. [Full review in Spanish]

Incredible costumes and sets. Loved the story line but it fell flat at the end, lacked the passion I was anticipating, and what happened to Hero's and Cherry's accents toward the end?

This movie is absurdly good (pun intended). It’s satirical, thought provoking, funny, and everything else you could ask of a movie outlining how a patriarchal theocracy views women. 10/10 no notes.
