A passionate film noir that depends heavily upon Mr. Gere to give it credence, and Mr. Gere delivers. Go to Full Review Pat Graham Chicago Reader Jan 1, 2000
Pearce pads out his plot with lots of borrowed bits ... but the borrowings don't have any resonance of their own: they simply hang on the story like empty thematic husks. Go to Full Review Roger Ebert Chicago Sun-Times Jan 1, 2000

An above-average film noir, and its creepy feeling for the back streets of New Orleans and the sultry evil of its red-light suburbs got under my skin. Go to Full Review Caffeinated Clint Moviehole Apr 21, 2021

Robert P @Superbad Sep 25, 2026 No Mercy = a 1.5 star Movie! See more Ari V @RT59419633 Mar 16, 2025 Certainly no masterpiece, but I found it oddy captivating, relatable and even sweet when I was a kid. Watching it now, for the first time in 40 years later, I guess that sweet spot lingers. A way of convening with my kid self, if nothing else. See more Jelisije J @jjosifovic Feb 21, 2025 A typical action movie that is held together by the strong two leads that eventually fall in love and of course the City of New Orleans really bring new life to this film action scenes. See more Mary F @RT16629861 Jun 24, 2024 I like Richard Gere and this film was better than I thought it would be. The photography was really beautiful, lots of dark streets, fire in darkness, water in swamps. Not as violent as I feared- more implied than shown. The sex is also discreet whist passionate and heartfelt. The relationship develops sensitively and the gangster stuff provides the background for it.
