Critics Consensus

Heist didn't cover any new ground, but the cast and Mamet's expertise with witty banter make it worthwhile.

We watch a movie like 'Heist' for the virtuosity of the execution, for the wit with which Mamet writes his way through the conventions, and the pleasure his actors take in chewing on his dialogue, in all of its repetition, shop talk, and artful profanity. Heist is that rare gem where the crew doesn’t need the money. Mamet’s intricately plotted and deliberate misdirection makes it hard, even after many viewings, to track the sleight of hand. Go to Full Review Gary Wolcott Tri-City Herald Apr 1, 2025

thiago S @Thiagostone Jun 11, 2026 Filme fraco, o roteiro é fraco, as cenas são fracas, a história é fraca, o elenco é fraco, e ninguém ajuda a melhorar o filme, os personagens são fracos, e o filme deveria ter cenas bem melhores e relevantes, para fazer o filme ser bom See more Dick C @Joshua19930826 Jan 2, 2026 Both Gene and the black star showing the truth of a real brotherhood... ... See more nick s @Nick_S Nov 21, 2025 The movie started off okay but diverged from reality over it's runtime. With more twists than a Chubby Checker concert, it felt like the writers were trying too hard to surprise the audience. A few of the actors were a bit patchy and the script needed work. See more Anson M @Ansonmapants Jul 29, 2025 Structured as a trick within a trick within a trick, Mamet's latest contribution to film noir is a mildly entertaining crimer that nonetheless exposes his strenuous efforts to outsmart the audience. See more Alain E @AlainE Jun 12, 2025 Planes, boats, trucks and automobiles chasing an elusive cache of gold. Gene Hackman in top form. Rebecca Pidgeon with short hair and chain smoking. See more Michael B @Michael___ Apr 2, 2025 Great cast, memorable performances, excellent script and good production values. What more could you want? OK, a little bit of it requires some suspension of belief, but Hackman's performance overcomes any shortcomings in the film. See more Read all reviews
