Critics Consensus

While 28 Weeks Later lacks the humanism that made 28 Days Later a classic, it's made up with fantastic atmosphere and punchy direction.

It's an exciting, well-directed thriller that, while providing more than enough action and gore to satisfy genre fans, also offers the political commentary that has characterized zombie movies. Go to Full Review

There isn't much acting here, but there is entirely too much vomiting, and the prose turns laughably purple, too. Go to Full Review

Even though I knew the scares were coming, I jumped out of my seat a few times. Go to Full Review

[Director] Fresnadillo drives the scenes of zombie mayhem with a jumpy camera and a fractured editing style that adds a sense of panic to the chaos, as if seen through the terror-stricken perspective of an adrenaline-laced bystander. Go to Full Review

Screenwriter Alex Garland’s willingness to get weirder and more mean-spirited in his follow-up is an unusual and admirable choice. Go to Full Review

Stranger, more diffuse, and less wedded to conventional notions of realism and regularly occurring jump scares than its predecessors... [although] no film in recent memory has been more deserving of an “incomplete” grade. Go to Full Review

Mitch C @PrimetimeMitch 23h It's more of an action thriller with a horror underbelly. There is some impressive visuals, the helicopter scene was very good, the large scale fire on the streets of London to take out the outbreak was also good. The rebuilding of life in the UK was interesting as a concept, but didn't last long. Again, they emphasise that some of the biggest problems are caused by human idiocy - with a situation created simply by two kids being foolish. And a situation escalated by some very trigger happy behaviour from American intervention which baffled more than I'd have liked. If it was 'shoot without question' because the numbers of infected were too great to control, then why continue after the numbers had been decreased and civilians are easier to spot? Why fire at a car when the infected would not be driving? These things bring it down but what keeps it positive is a strong and nasty performance from Robert Carlisle and a superb opening scene at the cottage which sticks in the memory. Now the 28 Years laters are coming out and bombing, people will probably realise this isn't as bad as they claimed it was! See more Sanne d @Sannedevries 6d As a huge fan of post-apocalyptic thrillers, I really enjoyed 28 Weeks Later. The tension ramps up quickly and keeps you on the edge of your seat, and the action sequences are intense without being over the top. The atmosphere is bleak but engaging, and the cast delivers solid performances that make you care about the characters. It's a worthy follow-up and definitely worth a watch if you like zombie horror with some heart. See more bob t Jan 19 I watched this movie for Jeremy Renner and he was not in it enough, pretty good zombie scenes though and still enjoyable enough. See more Rohit R Jan 18 I'd say this movie has one of the best horror opening scenes ever. Good sequel. See more Read all reviews
