Abruptio is not simply a story of hacking, slashing, and exploding as it cooly critiques our notion of a moral compass, love, loss, and survival instinct while starkly reminding us that, just like real life, there are no truly happy endings. One of the most jarring movies to come along in a while, this gory sci-fi horror story is performed by grotesque but lifelike puppets, giving it a uniquely disquieting, disorienting effect. Go to Full Review Emilie Black Cinema Crazed Dec 28, 2024
Abruptio is an oddity that fully commits to the weirdness of having an all puppet cast work within the locations as fully-human-pretending with full size everything. The film is surprisingly bloody, and the uncanny valley quality is spooky here. Go to Full Review Shawn Van Horn Collider Dec 6, 2024

It's part thriller, part over-the-top sci-fi horror, part character study, and all the way strange. Not all of Abruptio worked, but I won't soon forget it. Go to Full Review Callie Hanna FandomWire Oct 10, 2024

Whatever else you can say about Abruptio, you will not see any other film like it this year and that has to count for something. Go to Full Review Miyako Pleines Spectrum Culture Oct 2, 2024
Evan Marlowe’s life-size puppet drama Abruptio offers up some interesting visuals and a handful of clever concepts, it just never manages to cut itself free from some of the genre’s biggest cliché strings. Go to Full Review Read all reviews

I’m sure the film makers knew the life size puppet people would add an even creepier element to the whole experience. I’ve seen much gorier films, but the puppet people were just freakin crazy!!! See more nilufer e @Nilicim Aug 23, 2025 While it was one of a kind, I didn't like the creepiness of the characters and the gruesomeness masked behind puppets. Yes it was creative but was it worth the time? Nope. See more Garry A @heavyg Feb 17, 2025 I appreciate the filmmaker's creativity. The puppets were creepy but cool. I didn't stick with it. There wasn't any real cohesion from scene to scene. See more Read all reviews
