Ever since her parents left her as a baby, little Annie (Quvenzhané Wallis) has led a hard-knock life with her calculating foster mother, Miss Hannigan. However, all that changes when hard-nosed billionaire and mayoral candidate Will Stacks (Jamie Foxx) takes her in on the recommendation of his advisers (Rose Byrne, Bobby Cannavale). Critics Consensus

The new-look Annie hints at a progressive take on a well-worn story, but smothers its likable cast under clichés, cloying cuteness, and a distasteful materialism.

There's nothing wrong with reworking the score of Annie -- as this film does -- but too often, the movie seems a little embarrassed to be a musical at all, making it seem as if it's having a crisis of confidence. Go to Full Review

Chloe F @1chloe7 Jan 9 Annie 2014 is an absolute masterpiece. You get an amalgamation of everything in this movie from perfect acting, singing, and chemistry. Jamie foxx once again comes to play in this movie. He takes the role of Mr. Stacks to a whole new level. His song "The city’s mine the cities yours" is Grammy award winning. And the scenery throughout the film is to die for. It’s a perfect feel-good watch over and over again movie. Love! See more John K @WQCMI Jan 3 Underrated and heartwarming, while being a modern update of the original 80s film. (For the love of God, stop using racist comments to this film.) See more Märta Dec 28 I am astounded to hear these awful hate comments circulating rotten tomatoes!! This movie shaped me into what I am today. I found my inner Annie and I found that the sun comes out….tomorrow! Incredible. Amazing. Groundbreaking. Out of its own league. Makes me cry to think of all these despairful haters. Your sun will NOT come out tomorrow. HARD street awaits. P.S. can we make a real moon quacke movie. I want Rihanna to star in it as the lead. Watching this was my best opportunity, and soon it may-be yours. See more Vihaan S Oct 11 I genuinely don’t understand the hate this movie gets. Annie (2014) isn’t trying to copy the original, it’s bringing the story into a modern world with new energy, fresh faces, and a lot of heart. The soundtrack? Amazing. Almost every song is on my playlist. Sure, it’s not flawless, but who cares? It’s fun, it’s uplifting, and it actually makes you feel good, which is more than I can say for half the so-called “perfect” movies out there. This version of Annie has heart, humor, and soul. It deserves way more love than the critics ever gave it. It’s a kids’ movie! Sure, it’s corny at times and maybe a bit cliché, but come on, 28%?! Not an accurate rating AT ALL. Give this movie a watch; you won’t regret it! See more r H @Strife1972 Sep 24 just very cliche. could even get half way through it See more Suzanne D Sep 24 I finally watched this movies in 2025 on TV. I never like the original Annie. I always thought it was so corny. But this version is really cute and really held my interest. I don’t understand why it got such low ratings. if you get a chance watch it. See more Read all reviews
