Critics Consensus

The additional footage slows down the movie somewhat (some say the new cut is inferior to the original), but Apocalypse Now Redux is still a great piece of cinema.

Apocalypse has the expressive extravagance of a Wagner opera-and not merely because the swooping helicopter scene is set to the "Ride of the Valkyries." Go to Full Review Geoff Andrew Time Out Sep 22, 2024

This is still magnificent filmmaking and story-telling on every level. Apocalypse Now is one of the great films because it is about every war ever fought and at the same time is about much more than men in combat. Go to Full Review Adrian Turner Radio Times Sep 22, 2024

Robert P @Superbad Sep 11, 2026 Apocalypse Now Redux = a *4.5* star movie! See more Renaldo D @RT30888824 Jul 27, 2026 Very well made, one of the best films in the genre. See more Max M @Househuntermax Jul 11, 2026 Don’t be afraid about the three hour run time this movie does move along. All-time classic really and I think the longer version is better. Must watch. See more Renato M @Kutusov May 2, 2026 Best movie ever made and this is the best version of it. That's it, that's all you need to know. See more Zane T @ZaneThind Feb 23, 2026 While the original theatrical cut was nice This version is way better in my opinion. The direction seems more fluid and the remaster adds a great deal to the Cinematography. Perhaps the best psychological war film of all time. The acting in this explains the psychological toll of war really well. Great performances all around but the standout best are Martin Sheen, Robert Duvall, Marlon Brando, and Dennis Hopper. Sheen's gaze takes you on a whole different ride when watching this and as for Brando he steals the show when he appears on the screen. Duvall's firey character is an entertaining one and as for Hopper he is so enigmatic with his screen time. See more Dean S @RT15475943 Dec 21, 2025 This film is a masterpiece! Not sure if the added scenes were needed and personally I prefer the original cinema cut! The new scenes do slow the pacing of the film down especially the French plantation scenes which are slow and unnecessary, that said it’s still an unmissable watch and head and shoulders above anything released today! 10/10 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ See more Read all reviews
