Auntie Mame is a strange little mess of a film, one that may feature a fine leading performance from Rosalind Russell and a few gorgeous design elements, but whose episodic structure causes it to be heavily unfocused and meandering. Go to Full Review Mike Massie Gone With The Twins Sep 22, 2022

The story keeps shifting around from place to place and event to event, appearing as if the plot is made up on the spot; the film feels comprised of an improvisational, unorthodox series of vignettes. Go to Full Review Clyde Gilmour Maclean's Magazine Dec 3, 2019
Rosalind Russell turns in a flamboyant but beautifully controlled performance in the Hollywood version of the stage triumph. Go to Full Review Charles Mudede The Stranger (Seattle, WA) Aug 23, 2018
To this day, I still regard Auntie Mame as one of the highest of achievements of that very American decade. Go to Full Review Michael W. Phillips, Jr. Goatdog's Movies Oct 18, 2008

B-
Base on a book and Broadway play, the movie is still too theatrical due to Da Costa's mediocre helming, but it's a great, campy and colorful showcase for comedienne Rosalind Russell in her best-known role which she had originated on stage. Go to Full Review Read all reviews

Robert P @Superbad Sep 3, 2026 Loved this Movie it's an All time classic. See more scruffcake s @RT46053269 Dec 28, 2025 Classic and full of heart. A must see - we watch it every few years around the holidays even though it's not necessarily a holiday movie - it's about acceptance, love and transformation - humorously told. See more Dorothy C. @Toot5316 Jul 20, 2025 It’s a sentimental favorite of mine. The score is sweeping, grand and emotional, as is Mame herself. The photography and editing add to the emotion with spotlighted blackouts that isolate Rosalyn Russell from her surroundings in moments of introspection. As loud and boisterous as Mame is, in my mind she often has a tear in her eye, and I love her. See more Russ G @RT78760655 Feb 5, 2025 Too long and the Forest Tucker character is tiresome. See more Gorptholemew T @RT35369717 Jun 10, 2024 🍀 5.8/10 He’s names bad cock 😏. This film gets quite muddled with the story not to mention the overly long runtime. But it dose make up for it with great sets and nice 50s comfort. Grade B- See more Jonathan C @jonathan8888 May 10, 2024 Witty...charming....feel-good....fast-talking....... See more Read all reviews
