Critics Consensus

Uneven yet ultimately intriguing, Back Roads serves as a memorable calling card for star and debuting director Alex Pettyfer's talent behind the camera.

Despite its good intentions, condemning child abuse and sexual assault, Back Roads has little to offer in the way of sensitive or stirring storytelling.

Pettyfer's tastes, shortcomings and unflagging belief in himself leave a radioactive glow that comes only from the most reliably engrossing strain of failure...

Pettyfer's performance is deeply engaging...Hopefully he'll find a script that fits him a little better in the future.

Back Roads is a decently made drama, allowing Pettyfer the director the chance to hand a moody role to Pettyfer the actor.

If you're going to engage with adultery and incest and lord knows what else, you'd be well-advised to exhibit a subversive sense of playfulness and daring along the way.

Tragic and such an emotional rollercoaster. Excellent cast. It was so raw and sad.

Actually a very boring moving. We stopped watching it after waiting an hour of our lives that we will never get back.

The movie would be good if the characters each a a story, not just the 18-yr-old brother, and the brother should look and act like a teenager. The actress who portrayed the mom was excellent. The lead character/actor was not good: blah with stares n tears.
