In the late '60s, the self-proclaimed belles of the rock 'n' roll ball (Goldie Hawn), (Susan Sarandon) rocked the worlds of every music legend whose pants they could take off -- and they have the pictures to prove it. But it's been more than two decades since the Banger Sisters earned their nickname -- or even laid eyes on each other. Their reunion is the collision of two women's worlds; one who's living in the past, and one who's hiding from it. Together they learn to live in the moment.

Critics Consensus

Hawn and Sarandon are terrific together, but the hoary plot is predictable and contrived.

No Oscar performances in this bunch -- just a string of funny moments in a film that accepts our flaws. Go to Full Review Nell Minow Common Sense Media Sep 23, 2010

This is the directorial debut of Bob Dolman, who got his start scripting WKRP in Cincinnati, and as one might expect, he handles the comic material with aplomb and falls on his face whenever the story turns serious. Go to Full Review B.L. Panther Paste Magazine Oct 2, 2023

But now, 20 years on, The Banger Sisters has a salty bittersweetness...The road becomes open-ended, a prescient suggestion that there’s more to the journey, more to herstory. Go to Full Review David Nusair Reel Film Reviews Dec 3, 2022

Caroline P. @RT25024090 Mar 18, 2026 Salt of the earth, this one. Great chemistry between cast and fun to rewatch over the years. See more Apr 10, 2021 A highly rewatchable movie. Great chemistry between Hawn and Sarandon. See more Feb 5, 2021 I mean really two icons you can't go wrong, such a good movie. See more steve d @RT35616104 Jun 30, 2020 Some may find it fun to see these two work together but the script is so bad it isn't worth it. See more Jun 21, 2020 The combo of Hawn and Sarandon somehow elevates this mess to something borderline enjoyable, but the screenplay lacks comedic timing and witty dialogue. The sentimental bits feel contrived and leave a saccharine-sweet aftertaste, which somehow seems to works against the spirit of the story. On top of all, the one thing I was really disappointed in was the uninspired soundtrack. See more Dec 10, 2014 Hawn and Sarandon are pretty good as the best friends, but the "seen it before script" and the pedestrian direction kind of drag it down. Geoffrey Rush is wasted here and it seems like the cast was assembled based on how much acting hardware they already had. See more Read all reviews
