When slacker friends Joe Cooper (Trey Parker) and Doug Remer (Matt Stone) are challenged to a pickup basketball game against some jocks, they counter by proposing to play a game they learned called BASEketball, which combines basketball and baseball. In reality, they are improvising all the rules, but somehow the sport becomes a hit. A promoter (Ernest Borgnine) forms a popular league, but after his death a rival owner (Robert Vaughn) wants to change the rules to increase profits.

Critics Consensus

Baseketball isn't just a succession of fouls thanks to the comedic zip of David Zucker's direction, but sophomoric gags and a lack of performance hustle by Trey Parker and Matt Stone makes this satire a clumsy bunt.

Their incessant, obscene banter is meant to be endearing; their total lack of presence makes it simply annoying.

You can't help feeling that the whole project must have begun as an off-the-cuff joke which some studio executive took seriously and greenlighted.

Trey Parker - Matt Stone watched this when it first came out .. huge South Park fan . Rewatched 2026 . Very funny . Some the so called critics who say long winded rubbish about it … look at their faces in their profile pictures They look like the types that would enjoy only serious movies . This is not Bridget Jones’s diary for God sake. Great for a laugh even 27 years later
