Although the animation aesthetic, inspired by classic Japanese style, is bold and results in artistically pleasing shots (which I really don't like), the narrative quickly descends into absurd and directionless chaos. The film goes off the rails by introducing giant robots and exaggerated transformations that mischaracterize the protagonists and destroy any chance of dramatic tension, turning a promising premise into a tiresome, noisy, and bizarre visual spectacle.
