May be pure trash, but it's trash made with the kind of oozy psychedelic zest that powered a movie like A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors. Go to Full Review Geoff Pevere Toronto Star Nov 9, 2001
A mangy and ungainly movie, a cluttered and uncreepy assembly of stale clichs, telegraphed scares and low-rent effects. Go to Full Review Andrew O'Hehir Salon.com Oct 31, 2001
A grotesquely uneven schlockfest with large doses of bad writing and bad acting amid the delicious moments. Go to Full Review Jazzmin Crawley Dread Central Apr 4, 2026
Bones has more to offer than cheesy B-movie antics. Bones offers an inside look at thriving Black communities and how putting money before the community harms everyone. It’s a beautiful, yet tragic, love story intertwined with a tale of revenge. Go to Full Review Sharai Bohannon Blerdy Massacre Podcast Jun 17, 2025

'Bones' is Black Giallo and it's very telling people can't understand the genre when it decenters white characters. It's another movie that is required viewing helmed by Ernest Dickerson. Go to Full Review Jae-Ha Kim Jae-Ha Kim Jul 27, 2023

Patrick Peet grew up listening to that neighborhood rhyme. His father had been friends with Jimmy Bone -- a charismatic man who kept drugs out of the neighborhood and always had money for those who needed shelter and food. Go to Full Review Read all reviews

B P @Bradster69 Sep 4, 2026 Not Bad, but Not My Favorite See more Audrey T @RT70545547 Oct 12, 2025 We saw this DVD at a thrift store for $1 so we got it to see how bad it would be. People are far too harsh on this movie… it’s campy, but there’s a lot to like. I actually appreciated the visual effects (body recomposition was cool, the wall of sludgy dead people was disgustingly awesome). I thought they did a nice job with hair/makeup/costume. The twist at the end was all-too predictable and familiar but I still found myself enjoying it. See more Judson E @RT68984096 May 13, 2025 Mediocre, it's not bad but it's not great. Snoop is obviously the best part of the film, sadly I feel like it didn't use him enough. It's not really a horror film, it's more like the crow but with Snoop Dogg and less action.. I really wanted to like it but it's very Mediocre. See more Keiva T @RT18428878 Dec 24, 2024 Fantastic film for its time— See more Michael S @mstrocko Nov 29, 2024 Weak horror film that wastes Snoop playing a vengeful ghost. Shamelessly cribs from better horror films like Nightmare on Elm Street, Hellraiser, and Evil Dead. See more David T @RT24607491 Nov 12, 2024 The city of the dead/shadow realm place is so well done with a great mix of practical and CG effects. This should’ve spawned so many sequels; it’s Snoop Dog as a Freddy Kruger/70s pimp character. It's so visually interesting; one of my favorite effects is the walls of the house turning into melting trapped souls. But the real standout is Bone’s body being re-built with some gnarly practical effect of Bone’s being reincarnated as a dog eats a man alive, and Bone's body is rebuilt with a melting body shot in reverse; it looks insane. Just all around cool as fuck and super funny too without being too goofy. Some may not like goofier moments, but I think it has enough scares/gore to offset the cheesiness of the dialogue and the characters. Anyway, if you have Tubi, watch this movie!
