It does this while creating a hilarious atmosphere with many jokes and moments that are hilarious and not to mention ambitious. Much of what makes it work is the fact that many people in the film didn’t know who Sacha Baron Cohen was at the time, which makes the candid, unscripted moments genuinely funny and often unpredictable. The humor is definitely over the top and, at times, pushes into offensive territory. But going in with that expectation helps frame the experience—it’s meant to shock, provoke, and expose reactions in real time.
