Critics Consensus

Bridge to Terabithia is a faithful adaptation of a beloved children's novel and a powerful portrayal of love, loss, and imagination through children's eyes.

The characters, especially those of the two ten-year-old protagonists, ring true and when, just past the midway point, tragedy strikes it's quite devastating.

This screen adaptation of Katherine Paterson's now-classic novel for young readers tells its story with agreeable simplicity in between computer-generated monsters.

An enchanting, suspenseful, masterful work which digs far deeper than most films of this genre before or since. It took chances where none were needed and all of these gambles paid off in spades. Watching it will make you a better human being.

It can be over-sentimental and saccharine in moments, but it's also a kids' film, so why shouldn't it be?

Manages that rare feat of being both a faithful adaptation and appealing on an independent basis.

We walked on the bridge to a good fantasy. "Bridge to Terabitha" is an adaptation being whimsical & uplifting. A land to calls our or yours or theirs. Jess Aarons is an unfortunate boy consisting of a younger sister until he meets another girl, Leslie Burke (AnnaSophia Robb), who they have sweet chemistry together. I love the Terabitha site visited, which was needed. A way somebody like Jess could have his enemies stood up to. The Dark Master was a grand design, impactful, although no CGI characters in the live action world will reach what "Avatar" had. I suggest the best part is the relationships of the characters - the siblinghood after Leslie had died & Jess puts the crown on his younger sister, to suggest she rules. Cute. Watch it again like a Disney movie.

While Bridge to Terabithia has its flaws, it also has its best moments (as any other movie. I was interested into this movie because I saw a lot of people online say that this was one of the saddest movies that they had ever seen and I thought that that was impossible since this is a Disney movie from the late 2000s. I was not prepared for the ending even though I had it spoiled before I even watched the movie. I absolutely loved the story and I really believe that that was its biggest strength. The characters had great build up and connected with each other really well. At the end tears swelled in my eyes but still a great movie. Though it has its down moments like the bullies. I don’t think that the bullies are realistic at all. Especially the ones that bullied Jesse. Still a great movie and I would definitely recommend this to anyone that wants a good cry. I loved this movie.
