The lead singer of a popular pop band overhears her singing and he sets out to discover who the voice belongs to. The acting is very “campy,” no pun intended, but not too bad. I did enjoy Joe Jonas’s performance, it was the first time I ever saw him act in a movie, because it’s mostly Nick Jonas who’s the more prominent actor, but Joe was funny, brought some good humor to the film. There were some fun dance numbers, but at times it kind of felt like a wannabe High School Musical, but in general the songs weren’t as memorable. Despite a good chunk of the film depicting Demi Lovato using lies and deception to win people over, there is a good lesson about honesty and staying true to yourself. Compared to other mediocre Disney Channel offerings I’ve seen, “camp rock” was decently enjoyable, I’m not a fanatic for it, but I can finally at least say I’ve seen it!
