Critics Consensus

Kevin Spacey turns in one of his stronger performances, but Casino Jack is a disappointingly uneven fictionalized account of a fascinating true story.

George Hickenlooper's fact-based satire, starring Kevin Spacey and his ever-sharp comic timing, offers an antic version of the wheeler-dealer whose ambition and blinkered morality were close to caricature all along.

The film has a complicated political story to tell, and its erratically suspenseful narrative often detracts from its central interest - what makes Abramoff tick.

Casino Jack is really two movies: a convoluted tale about the exploits of disgraced Washington super-lobbyist Jack Abramoff, coupled with a zealous-if-misguided performance from Kevin Spacey in the title role.

Casino Jack's creators never look beyond the one or two "bad apples," not caring to see that bushels of them have fallen from a fatally poisoned tree.

Casino Jack manages to be entertaining and illuminating, even as it helps confirm some worst fears about what really goes into at least some of our nation's law-making.

This is a criminally underrated movie. I think it's a great story and Roger Ebert gave it 3 out of 4 stars saying "Casino Jack is so forthright it's stunning."

What a pile of steaming shit. I'm surprised Kevin Spacey is a part of this. I could hardly force myself to finish it.

A decent expose on the world of lobbying with some interesting characters, but ultimately forgettable. Kevin Spacey as Jack Abramhoff and Jon Lovitz as Adam Kidan gave wonderful performances. Their scenes really added to the film. However, as a whole the movie never lets us care about the characters. Instead they seem or like caricatures than real people. In fact, many of the people remind me of NPCs from video games. If you want to see Spacey in a political project, I'd recommend "House of Cards" instead.
