Adonis Johnson (Michael B. Jordan) never knew his famous father, boxing champion Apollo Creed, who died before Adonis was born. However, boxing is in his blood, so he seeks out Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone) and asks the retired champ to be his trainer. Rocky sees much of Apollo in Adonis, and agrees to mentor him, even as he battles an opponent deadlier than any in the ring. With Rocky's help, Adonis soon gets a title shot, but whether he has the true heart of a fighter remains to be seen.

Critics Consensus

Creed brings the Rocky franchise off the mat for a surprisingly effective seventh round that extends the boxer's saga in interesting new directions while staying true to its classic predecessors' roots.

Adonis and Rocky make one of the year's best cinematic pairings, their transition from strangers to acquaintances to partners to friends to something so much more absolutely exquisite.

It's a formula film, executed to near perfection. And it wields a secret weapon: our nostalgia for the original.

There's love for the characters in every frame. Add to that an affectionately written screenplay, an impressive Jordan, and a pitch-perfect Stallone, and you've got yourself a picture that aims for a win, perseveres, and rolls the credits standing tall.

Creed might hit a lot of the same beats as its predecessor, but it does so with its own distinct sense of timing.

One word to describe this movie…. Heartfelt. Seeing Adonis’ interactions with Rocky felt natural, and his relationship with Bianca was not overdone. Would watch again

A genre-defining revival of a classic that keeps the original structure and adds more emotion than the entire original franchise

More than just a passing of the torch, it is an emotional and technical gut punch. Ryan Coogler’s modern direction and Michael B. Jordan’s magnetic presence breathe new life into this universe, without ever losing sight of Rocky Balboa’s legacy—presented here in one of his most human and moving incarnations. A triumphant return with the soul of a classic.
