Critics Consensus

Tony Scott tries to combine action, science fiction, romance, and explosions into one movie, but the time travel conceit might be too preposterous and the action falls apart under scrutiny.

It's a hard movie to hate, just one that's far too easy to forget.

Take away a couple of neatly staged action sequences and you're left with a callously measured slab of US jingoism that deals with the most horrific human tragedies in the most lunk-headed and insulting way possible.

It's Denzel himself, ambling through the nonsense with just the right degree of twinkling insouciance, who keeps you watching. Good fun.

If one can get past the dubious technical details of the setup, the competent acting should take care of the rest of the entertainment.

Sounds a bit dodgy, huh? Not when an in-form Denzel Washington is involved. He's the glue that keeps this absurdly compelling thriller together as it mashes up the present and the past to intoxicating effect.

Although a certain amount of disbelief suspension is a necessity, the script tries exceptionally hard, and succeeds, in building a credible case.

There is not a time when this movie comes on tv when I won’t stop what I’m doing and watch. Every scene is compelling. Denzel and supporting cast including Paula Patton are outstanding and all have chemistry. Plot is so clever. I really don’t understand why any critic panned this or said "not believable." Who cares? How many movies have been made since with insane implausibility?

See You Yesterday Man, I love a good old Tony Scott film. The guy was able to start this movie with barely any dialogue and visually tell the story without saying a word. The camera work is excellent, followed by fantastic practical effects. I was locked in after those first 10 minutes. About 35 minutes in, the movie introduces an idea that completely changes the direction of the story. It is not the most realistic concept, but I did not care because I was already invested. I was glued to the screen. The acting was great, Denzel was classic Denzel, and the supporting cast helped make the story feel grounded and real. Some things become a little too convenient to keep the story moving, and a few plot choices are a little strange. The science behind everything can also get confusing and convoluted at times. I can understand if this movie does not work for everyone, but for me it did. Tony Scott delivered another entertaining film, and I was thoroughly entertained from start to finish

I thought it was very well done and come on, it's Denzel. It was a little hard to follow the time shifting explanations but I still really enjoyed it. The ending was excellent as well. I watched it probably 15 or more years ago and I'm so glad I gave it another look.

It's a very good film. But the plot became predictable once the strange part of the story gets revealed. It still kept me on the edge of the seat though, so it served the purpose.
