South Boston cop Billy Costigan (Leonardo DiCaprio) goes under cover to infiltrate the organization of gangland chief Frank Costello (Jack Nicholson). As Billy gains the mobster's trust, a career criminal named Colin Sullivan (Matt Damon) infiltrates the police department and reports on its activities to his syndicate bosses. Scorsese's most thrilling affair, if not his purest. There's less detail in the heart, but it's one of the most aesthetic and structurally creative films of his career. So much going on, yet none of it is bogged down by plot. What moments of reprieve there are, usually exist for a heart thumping bit of character development, that hits just the right bit of sincere. Letting you know these are living, breathing characters. Most of which are being pushed to their very limits. The result is some truly remarkable cinema.

Synopsis
