Except for maybe the first 30 minutes when they are recruiting and training the men. The acting really is the only thing I enjoyed. Cassavettes is especially good. That final mission at the end of the film also kicked so much butt. I genuinely loved every part of it, what a fantastic script with a bunch of great actors. My only issue is, sometimes it feels as if it’s dragging and it’s easy to get bored in those moments. But if you wait out the boring parts you get some genuinely great scenes after. 4.5/5 stars. See more Russ G @RT78760655 02/24/2024 Yes, it's All Star cast packed 'em into the theaters during the Johnson Administration, but this overly long and quite preposterous tale doesn't hold up. The plot includes a ridiculous war game that merely pads the running time past two and a half hours to pretend it's worthy of being called "epic." The actual mission isn't terribly convincing, either. It's basically a "Great Escape" wannabee, but this is thin gruel. The 60's saw too many of these over-the-top fictionalized versions of wartime action that actually devalued the suffering and sacrifice of the men who served. See more Nol P @NolPKelowna 12/06/2023 I finally watched the Dirty Dozen again after so many yrs gone by and for only my 2nd time ever. 1st time ever in high def! Pros and cons to report... Some really silly death scenes and some suspect acting by some but Lee Marvin was so strong start to finish. Plus those Nazis in a boat!, so silly! And some really bad driving too by some other Nazi guys was also so darn silly! They really focused mostly on all that training and such for like an hr and 40 mins and then they were finally ready for battle and some of the silliness took place which was a letdown after waiting so long for the storming in on the Nazi castle. I have to go with a 7 out of 10 here, (almost a 7.5), and yes I did factor in the release yr of 1967 and long before any CGI which I am not a fan of. I prefer old fashioned special effects and this movie did deliver in this regard. So long in running time but worth the watch for those who have not yet seen! For me though this is one and done as so many other titles to get through for the rest of my life. Jim Brown was also pretty good and so was Bronson. Does Sutherland always have to play a putz?
