Genuinely very interesting film. Had a hard time orienting myself for the first 20 minutes, but it locked me in. Kubrick is a very particular filmmaker and not to everyone's taste. This work is about a man with presumptions around marriage, sex, sexuality, and gender who's cut down at the knees by a revelation from his wife, causing a spiraling journey through one night across New York. I forget sometimes how masterful Kubrick is at creating sequences with such gravity and precision that you're totally sucked in and along for the ride.

No matter the debate over just how complete it is or what it’s trying to say, Eyes Wide Shut remains a remarkable achievement in a filmography stacked with them. It perfectly encapsulates the many sides and moods of Stanley Kubrick, flitting with dreamlike sensibilities, dark humor, stark cinematography and thematic ambiguity

2.5 stars deducted for the posthumous destruction of what might have been. I believe it had the makings of at least a 4-star film, if Stanley had been able to see it to cinema release. I can see where Kubrick wanted to go, despite the edits, but we will never know where the journey would actually have ended.
