Kubrick's final film is unique in his oeuvre for concluding on a note of apparent affirmation. Go to Full Review Kenneth Turan Los Angeles Times Dec 14, 2014
This is finally a film that is better at mood than substance, that has its strongest hold on you when it's making the least amount of sense. Go to Full Review Stephen Hunter Washington Post Dec 14, 2014

…viewed in 2026, Eyes Wide Shut is Kubrick’s masterpiece, an accusation of the society he saw around him, accused here of being corrupt, depraved and built around the repression, exploitation and control of women…. Go to Full Review Luke Y. Thompson Mortal Cinema (Substack) Mar 18, 2026

Elise Mar 7, 2026 Genuinely very interesting film. Had a hard time orienting myself for the first 20 minutes, but it locked me in. Kubrick is a very particular filmmaker and not to everyone's taste. This work is about a man with presumptions around marriage, sex, sexuality, and gender who's cut down at the knees by a revelation from his wife, causing a spiraling journey through one night across New York. I forget sometimes how masterful Kubrick is at creating sequences with such gravity and precision that you're totally sucked in and along for the ride. It perfectly encapsulates the many sides and moods of Stanley Kubrick, flitting with dreamlike sensibilities, dark humor, stark cinematography and thematic ambiguity See more Rene M Dec 13, 2024 Greatest film of all time See more Paul S @PManRager 13 hrs ago I was incredibly disappointed with this movie. Stanley Kubrick is one of the most iconic directors of all time, but this movie does not elevate his prestige. While I did like the concept and idea behind the movie, every scene was incredibly drawn out, and it made the story move way too slowly. Not to mention, I found Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman's characters to be absolutely insufferable. Kubrick's cinematic style and visual flair gave the movie an incredibly endearing and eerie atmosphere, but I did not enjoy watching this movie at all. If you're a fan of dramas and thrillers, you might find this movie interesting, but like the advice Bill Harford received in this movie, it's best to stop all inquiries. See more Read all reviews
