Critics Consensus

Friend Request's attempts to update old-school teen horror for the digital age do not, sadly, include memorable characters, fresh scares, or novel storytelling twists.

It's a film devoid of subtext, which is especially disappointing given that the subtext would have been so easy to incorporate.

The characters aren't as obnoxious and unlikable as the ones in "Smiley" and "Unfriended," but then again, bland and forgettable is only a marginally preferable alternative.

Friend Request is an attempt to get the Halloween crowd a few weeks early, but it's the type of invitation you should just ignore.

Friend Request won't go down in history as great horror cinema but it will provide above-average returns for those seeking frights and thrills in the dark with their friends and sweethearts.

Unfriend/Friend Request has a lot of hate, but I think it is simply a mediocre movie. I have watched the two Unfriended movies, and I do like this style of horror. Laura Woodson (Alycia Debnam-Carey) is a popular student who gets her friends into a lot of trouble after she unfriends the crazy stalker Marina Mills (Liesl Ahlers). It seems that once Marina killed herself, she cursed Laura and her friends so that Laura would be lonely forever. In this movie, all of her friends suffer horrible deaths, and she did try to stop it, but she was way too late. Instead of just killing Laura, she decides to make her share the same fate. The ending to me was very predictable, because she did specifically state that she was going to be lonely. It's not a great movie, but I certainly wouldn't say I absolutely hated it. I thought the jump scares were pretty good, and some of them were actually scary. Overall, the goal of the movie was to make Laura's life miserable, and Marina did exactly that.

It was really good thriller, unique plot too. Actors have done a great job. I don't understand the criticism at all, it was an amazing watch. Easily on my top 5s.

Besides a few jump scares, this movie is horrible. The artwork's pretty cool but the movie really doesn't make much sense it flip-flops everywhere and the ending was bad.

It has some cool visuals but overall the story just doesn't make much sense. And that ending... ugh. The motivations were non existent and the characters were all pretty flat.

I've seen many bad reviews for this. This movie is more interesting than many that get big reviews like today like, Longlegs .RT is a mess like everything in the world now. Getting paid to give good reviews for bad movies.
