Critics Consensus

Friends with Benefits adds nothing new to its well-worn rom-com formula, but the chemistry between Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis is almost enough to carry the movie by itself.

The plot is really just a rickety frame on which to hang cultural references. My God, the cultural references. Flash mobs! Street art! Smart phones! '90s nostalgia! Guerrilla advertising! iPads! Sexting!

It qualifies very well as that crowd-pleasing romantic comedy audiences love and brings the "layers" that puts it near the greats in its genre.

A mix of Before Sunrise, Down With Love and The Holiday, Friends With Benefits seeks to skewer Hollywood tropes of the genre as well as homaging classics of the past.

Friends with Benefits brings nothing new to the romantic comedy genre but it's so much fun watching Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis.

A funny movie, but the thing is, the ending was expected like a typical romcom but it was funny on the comedy side

Went into this film with very low expectations. I am usually fairly skeptical with more modern films, and rom-coms usually are either too cheesy and boring or too sexual but this film had a great balance of both. It felt believable, and the acting was amazing. I love films about realistic people and it delivered.

Way funnier and sharper than I expected, with charm that hooks you right in.

Leans too heavily on the concept. Predictable storyline and flat character development. Acting was pretty mediocre.
