Friends With Money isn't an action film, it has no real surprises, and generally has a very subtle plot. But what it does has is heart. Go to Full Review David Ansen Newsweek Nov 1, 2007
This delicious, seriocomic tale of four friends in affluent, liberal, west L.A. grappling with midlife crises, metrosexual spouses and household remodeling takes on an avoided subject: money, and how it affects our relationships. Go to Full Review Andrew O'Hehir Salon.com Oct 7, 2006
This is a dense and sophisticated work about mortality, materialism, madness, jealousy and pity a movie in which the fabulous duds are ripped off the "Sex and the City" gals and they're left teetering on the edge of the abyss... Go to Full Review David Walsh World Socialist Web Site Feb 14, 2021
The film is constructed out of the notion that these small moments constitute life. ... But it is not a terribly interesting life, and it seems rather myopic of Holofcener to imagine that we will be fascinated by it. Go to Full Review Tara Thorne The Coast (Halifax, Nova Scotia) Jul 11, 2016
Nicole Holofcener is a humanist. When people say, "It's a movie about real life," they're talking about movies like hers. Go to Full Review Film4 Staff Film4 Mar 12, 2010
Boasting generous performances from each player, this is a film that understands the foibles of human nature. Go to Full Review Read all reviews

Melissa M @Lisey May 20, 2026 Like in most movies that Joan cusack is unrecognizable, but is an amazing actress. This movie is an accurate portrayal not only of married life. But of the single life as well. The conversation the friends have behind each other's backs it's pretty much how people talk in real life. Jane is either going through a midlife crisis or early menopause. Or something even more serious than that. Olivia sometimes gets very defensive when people talk about her being a maid. She's a single girl just struggling to get by. Who takes free samples every chance she gets. Franny means well but she gets too involved in other people's lives. Always trying to fix things & people. Christine like her house her life is grandiose. But not Grand. The men in their lives are just as complicated & complex. This movie is not a full-on chick flick. But it's pretty close. It's a movie that some men might relate to as well. Depending on the man. See more Todd B @RT84089920 Nov 15, 2025 It is hard to tell if the movie is trying to be synical, satirical or symphathetic about the lives of rich LA urbanites. The fairytale ending is silly, but it has its moments. The trope of Karen could easily come from this movie. See more Farah R @Farah Oct 5, 2025 A deeply personal insight into the lives of four friends highlights the complexity of relationships through believable performances. Friends With Money might not be enjoyable, but it's a fascinating character study with thought-provoking themes. See more Kathleen L @RT85666475 Jun 12, 2025 A film in which some really good actors try to make the most of a really lame plot line with underwhelming, snooze-inducing results. Maybe put this on if you’re having trouble sleeping. See more Susan C @RT28502861 May 17, 2025 I only recently watched this film. It was one of those movie’s where I’d watched a bit at a time. It just wasn’t very good. However the message was clear. It reminds me of why I left Southern California. Insufferable snobs. See more Filippos S @RT85468875 Mar 23, 2025 Not good obviously. But not so bad. See more Read all reviews
