Now hiding out in Eastern Europe, Johnny Blaze (Nicolas Cage) is still struggling with the curse of the Ghost Rider -- the devil's bounty hunter. Johnny meets a priest named Moreau (Idris Elba), who asks Johnny to find a boy named Danny (Fergus Riordan) and bring him back. But there's a catch -- Satan (Ciarán Hinds) is looking for the boy too, and has a personal stake in the matter. But if Johnny can find Danny first and save the boy's soul, there's a chance Johnny can save his own soul as well.

Critics Consensus

With a weak script, uneven CG work, and a Nic Cage performance so predictably loony it's no longer amusing, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance aims to be trashy fun but ends up as plain trash.

Cage appears to find his role as this second-tier Marvel Comics antihero alternately silly, tremendously fun, and the means to a decent paycheck for not all that much work.

Whether Cage is still paying off castles, appeasing the IRS, or rebuilding his comic book collection, it's clear he's decided, for now, to trade his talent for cold, hard cash.

Spirit of Vengeance is weighted down for long stretches in the middle, as it starts to treat its own religious hokum plotline with undue seriousness.

The film revs and stalls, swerving between gritty and silly, with scorching action but a clichéd story, with fiery performances but burned out dialogue.

Leans into the campier elements of the character and Nicolas Cage, along with the directors, seems to be having a total blast and that comes across on screen.

Though Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance attempts to offer a new spin on this comic property without entirely rebooting the franchise, the result looks and feels thrown together.

The plot is boring and the dialogues make no sense.

Nicholas Cage phones in a typical looney performance. There are a few good scenes. It's an average film at best but the ending was strong.

Weird character actions, bizarre writing choices, awkward camera angles, and a lackluster story make this movie an absolute drag. It managed to keep me entertained with awesome visuals, fight scenes, and fun-bad moments, but this movie feels the furthest thing from a Ghost Rider story. I love Nicolas Cage, but his performance feels like he's pretending to be the Ghost Rider rather than actually feeling like the Ghost Rider. The first one, while not perfect, is far better than this one. You're better off just watching that one and skipping this entirely.

Damn the sequel is so bad! There are some positives to, but let's start with the bad and end with the good start. First of all they recast Mephisto and called him Roarke. I know it's one of his aliases but rename it the sequel? Just why? But the important thing Ciarán Hinds is way lesser as Mephisto. The rest of the villains are also unbelievable. The story was bad and boring. I really didn't care was not invested in this all. The hole plot with the young kid was dom! Also the religious society. Now the promised positives about the movie. They are a few. The first one is obviously Nicolas Cage, his perfomance was incredible as Johhny Blaze/Ghost Rider. He carried the hole movie and made it bereable to watch it. The action sequences were incredible and the CGI of Ghost Rider was so much better. So this are all the reason the movie gets a 2 star instead of 1
