Blu B Oct 30 It's a Coen Brothers Classic but speaking to the quality of the overall body of work you could argue this is the point where things really started to turn in the wrong direction looking back. It has the same structure of something like Burn After Reading but is just not as tightly done as that was especially in the middle. And this also just has tone issues too. The editing isn't bad here as a whole but I mean its a musical, comedy, crime plot, meta hollywood drama, all done in a screwball type fashion with a Pulp Fiction style plot. It can get very unfocused at times but never is it not entertaining a testament to the great direction by the Coen Brothers, quirky but memorable characters, and just crazy antics. The S.J. subplot feels like the most unrelated thing and coud've been cut completely. It doesn't feel like it's related to much at all. Tatum's Golden Era music number is great but again it doesn't really fit with anything. Both are entertaining and great scenes like 99% of this film but when you mash them together they feel ike completely different films at certain points. The main ransom plot feels just forgotten at points in the middle. The fact the end does do a good job wrapping things up in a whacky Coen Brothers style way is a small miracle. It just works enough honestly for me and everything else is well done. The characters are all memorable, it's always entertaining, has that Coen Brothers humor/dialouge to it, and it's never convuluted. It's just not clear how things link up. At least Burn After Reading felt like it was all from the same film. This feels like it's from the same director but not the same film at times if that makes sense. It's got great production value, a meta style plot, and doesn't take itself serious at all, it's fun. But man is it unfocused and all over the place tone wise at times too in the middle. Anyone who is a fan of any actors here, the directors, or very quirky comedies should check this out. Oh No, someone has been kidnapped but thankfully someone else knows exactly where to find them and they're all alone when the guy shows up. And so forth and so on. Seriously, I can imagine the conversation, "So, a Hollywood star gets kidnapped", "OK, then what happens" "Ummm, I don't know, but another star's big secret is about to be revealed! "OK, what happens?" "Ummm...well we only have the actress for one day so we'll just have to say things worked out" If you're going to watch this film have low hopes, very low. See more Paul S Apr 12 Despite its incredible cast, this movie's story was all over the place, and it didn't have the comedic thrill that other Coen Brothers' movies have. It was still really fun to watch, and the performances were incredible. I definitely recommend it for comedy fans! However, while clever and well-paced, it isn’t particularly laugh-out-loud funny, and its narrative unfolds with subtlety. Watching Hail, Caesar! feels akin to experiencing a cinematic counterpart to F.
