Luke O @LukeO Sep 20, 2026 This is what we went through the 1960s for? As someone who lived through that time I have to say a resounding "NO!" Miloṣ Forman completely missed the point of being a hippie in the first place! The people who became hippies did so out of a sense of alienation due to the Vietnam war, rampant racism and other garbage that was happening at the time. Unlike previous generations, many of those who became hippies found themselves able to see what the previous generations' failures were, and act to defend themselves from becoming cannon fodder in a war that we had no business being in. And so much more that I don't have the space to talk about here. I was too young to leave home and become a hippie, but I was just as able to see all that and many other things that even the hippies missed. I hope everyone was able to enjoy this peversion of history. Personally, the scence with the enlistment boards is worth the price of admission. Maybe made ten years too late, though. I loved it. The silliness, the darker side, the choreography and the cast. I'm 34, and have tended to stay away from older movies that visually look dated, blame my dad for making me watch westerns as a kid when all I wanted was a musical. I genuinely felt sad at the end, thinking to myself, "I wonder if his dad is proud of him now". I'm glad I can say I've seen this movie now. Will probably watch again in a few months time. Perhaps, but what makes it immortal are its songs and its legacy. See more Read all reviews
