I like that even in todays time with rebooting old projects just for nostalgia and reigniting old fan bases, this one got that but made a good enough movie to not feel completely like that or that is the reason solely to be made. The 30 years gap basically made the movie. Happy has kids, money are needed, struggle appears and golf is again in the picture. But again golf is the same but its new times so new golf. And we get to the but. A few famous people appear without reason. Youtubers, podcasters... Felt like we need their audiences too. I guess a balance between making money out of the IP and still give people what they want was achieved. The movie is light, had some good jokes and is a good friday night movie choice. I couldn’t tell whether it was a cash grab or money laundering, but if it was neither, everyone involved did themselves a disservice. I love when long-awaited sequels use thoughtful callbacks, but HG2 insists on explaining every joke before delivering it. Pair that with a parade of cameos nearly every scene, and the result feels less like a film than a poorly edited home movie. It didn’t feel like they ever truly trusted the audience’s intelligence in making the connection to a joke. I try not to be unnecessarily harsh but HG2 is riddled with inconsistencies, flat performances, and jokes that almost never land. Crawford’s appearance was the only time I genuinely laughed. I was left feeling as though I’d not only wasted time watching the sequel, but wasted time revisiting the original beforehand. HG2 could have been a joyful return, but repeatedly undermines what made the original memorable. This movie does have some standout moments, but it’s just not as good as the original. It’s got a nice story and is fun. Bad Bunny steals every scene he’s in. As for a film, this is just fine and something you can definitely throw on in the background.
