xpig332 B @RT69712065 Oct 14, 2025 I tried to like it, Jack Palance must’ve been desperate. See more Scot T @RT28818123 Sep 19, 2025 You see, the tiny budget, the almost complete lack of sets and locations, these are the things that set HtS apart. The sheer balls on the director and producer to just go ahead and make this movie despite not really having the resources to do it! That's what's in every frame. Compare it to Krull, or Excalibur, or The Sword and the Sorcerer. All good early 80s fantasy flicks that I rented over and over again from Barker's video rental. But none of them have the heart and the joy of HtS. It's just a bunch of guys running around in the woods. But as a kid I totally bought into their world. And when WE were also running around in the damp forest, with stick swords, we were so close to that world I could almost touch it. See more Mar 19, 2022 The greatest movie ever made See more Aug 18, 2021 A great old sword and sorcery romp With a good story and a fun scenes and dastardly villain See more Jul 27, 2021 A classic medieval fantasy, with an amazing sound-track. The mind-sword is a great weapon too. See more Mar 14, 2020 Suffers from a bland lead. There are no bodybuilders or bikini models in this sword-and-sorcery fantasy film. This is more a family and I'm not sure how many kids will be interested in a low budget 1980s Lord of the Rings knockoff when there are 6 modern day big budget epics that are 3+ hours long to occupy your kids. The most entertainment part of the film is watching future academy award winner Jack Palance from scene to scene switch from mailing in his performance to hamming it up. Also, the great source of entertainment is that the script clearly had someone much younger in mind for the role, but jumped at the chance to cast Palance and his start power into this low budget shlock and didn't bother to alter the script in any way. His father whom he calls "old man" is 4 years old than him and his brother is 30 years younger. If you're into Renaissance fairs, dungeons and dragons, cosplay or you're a big fantasy buff then this may be for you, as the movie does create its own world and follow its rules, then this movie may be for you, if not you'll find it bland and derivative as it also borrows heavily from Star Wars as well.
