diogo13 T @Tua_mera 3 days ago The rural horror premise promised faithfulness to the comic book, but the execution fails on every level. Resembling a low-budget amateur film, it suffers from poor pacing, cringeworthy supporting performances, and atrocious visual effects. It is a painful, tedious experience that strips the character of all charisma. See more Jacob B @JB3.0 Oct 3, 2026 An improvement over the 2019 reboot, which wasn't a high bar to clear to begin with, The Crooked Man does have issues, largely due to budgetary constraints, but it is surprisingly okay for something that exists mainly so that one of the production companies could keep the film rights to the Hellboy IP. Committed actors, good prosthetic work on the titular character, a decent sense of atmosphere, the blind reverend being an entertaining character and just the general feeling that this was made with sincerity. Like someone was clearly trying to make the film work with the resources they had available to them. There’s something admirable about that despite issues like the pacing and looking like a glorified fan film. The movies from the Del Toro era are still peak though. Shame we never got a Hellboy 3. The Crooked Man is undoubtedly a low-budget production and hardly the best example of this IP in feature-length format but at least it isn't stinky poo-poo garbage like the last film. An SS-Scientist from Adolf Hitler uses a Portal to make an Biotechnologe possessed and he creates a Virus that only lets aryan people survive. It thinks It's smarter than the viewer while being more stupid. The setting is supposed to be modern times but there is no internet, phones, electricity or water and there are mentions to a recent war that looks like WWII. Hellboy is a non character, could be a normal person and the story wouldn't change at all. The characters have no development until they scream their feelings out of nowhere. This seems like a bad horror movie that got the Hellboy IP slapped on top. It falls back on the disrespectful trope that ugly country people are inherenty evil. It is weirdly pro-american, in the sense that a random nobody in the middle of nowhere is incredibly knowdlegeable about witches and that a rich setteler is this huge evil able to controll time itself. If it were a Supernatural episode, It'd be middeling to bad, but as a standalone movie ment to reboot the franchise, It's offensive. See more The Dan G @RT44855371 May 10, 2026 As a long time Hellboy comics fan, I believe this film was very well made for its lower budget. Hellboy isn’t always about action and fancy fight scene but focuses a lot on story and creepy tales such as The Crooked Man. I hope they can add more stories like this into upcoming Hellboy Films.
