Sentimental in the nicest sense, it is kind-hearted, undemanding and entirely non-essential.

The numbing predictability of the film can’t be acted around, and it’s too counterfeit to delight us all the way.

Whilst some parts of the story feel a bit too contrived, the film’s mixture of good-heartedness and fierce humour carries it easily over most of the bumps in the road.

... a lazy, unthinking comedy that would leave even a six-year-old unchallenged and unentertained.

A very good movie - heart warming, funny, some very good "reminders" (life lessons) for all. If you're hyper religious, don't take offense - remember it's just a movie that reminds us all that we're human and in need of some type of redemption.

Judy Davis and Jacki Weaver still have what it takes. Cute movie. Nice New Zealand landscapes

This is a beautiful film, with nostalgic feel good vibes. Strong performances from an incredible cast. Occasional humorous acknowledgment of the massive power imbalance between female and male instructions in the Catholic Church. Stunning New Zealand scenery. Make sure you see it

Judy Davis is an amazing actress and she still ‘has it’ in spades. It’s unfortunate that she wasted her best talent on this silly show. The humour was remarkably thin and was generally cringeworthy. Calling a horse race with ‘golden showers’ running; having an eight year old making the error between the words ‘excommunication’ and ‘prostitution’ was just plain silly and gormless. No, even Judy couldn’t save this show….
