The performances are universally strong, the writing spare and muscular and the photography arresting. Go to Full Review

One of Ritt's best films, with fine performances all round, impressive Death Valley locations, and superlative camerawork from James Wong Howe. Go to Full Review

For this is a first-rate cooking of a western recipe-not a great Western film nor a creation, but an excellent putting of heat to a fine selected blend. Go to Full Review

As a Western, Hombre offers enough excitement to stand up with the best of them. As a motion picture with sure-handed direction, a literate script and excellent acting it also offers something for all audiences, Western fans or not. Go to Full Review

Dubravko C @Cliffsider 2d John Russell is not Indian, he was raised by Indians. Some of the reviewers need to watch movies more carefully before writing about them. Hombre is superb western focused on characters with great acting. Classic. See more Keith B B @Okbullard Jan 20 I thought it was well done I mean come on Paul Newman. There's a little action with some intense scenes. It's definitely worth your time. See more Rich O Sep 29 The actors do a most incredible job of making the characters believable and they come alive on the screen. Well written, well acted, and most enjoyable. See more Mary S Apr 27 Tedious. Overly psychological. Newman has done better. See more SkyRo P @TheMovieSearch Jan 30 I recently watched the 1967 film "Hombre," starring Paul Newman. This Western drama features Newman as a white man who finds himself navigating the challenges of life in Native American territory before eventually returning to mainstream American society. The film delves into themes of conflict and abuse among its characters, highlighting a darker side of human relationships. It's undeniably a classic, albeit with an old-fashioned approach. However, it wasn't really to my taste. The film didn't particularly captivate me, and I doubt I'll revisit it in the future. I decided to watch it mainly to see Newman’s performance, considering it was a chance to experience one of his films. While it has its merits for the era in which it was made, I don't think it holds the same lasting appeal as other classics that continue to resonate with audiences over time. "Hombre" was a title I had never encountered until now, and it didn't leave a lasting impression on me. See more j F 11/15/2024 Everything was great but the portrayal of Paul newman as an Apache. He is silent and dignified, but it's not realistic. An American Indian with light blue eyes? No. See more Read all reviews
