I Am Legend overcomes questionable special effects and succeeds largely on the strength of Will Smith's mesmerizing performance.

If you ignore its flaws, I am Legend can be enjoyed as the perfect brainless Boxing Day blockbuster - but it is essentially a leftover festive turkey. Go to Full Review

Smith turns in a terrific performance, nailing Neville's angst while allowing room for humor. Go to Full Review

... focuses on the visceral experience of roaming an empty New York City, a metropolitan ghost town slowly being reclaimed by foliage and wildlife (ostensibly escaped from the zoo and running wild through the abandoned streets). Go to Full Review

K G Jan 21 Will Smith is a hero of 0 population, but he saves everybody. I would have felt fortunate to be the only living things around the time living things have been instantly killed. The way Will Smith (actually, Robert Neville) feels about the well droughted New York - he is depressed & just having his dog. I will think of this movie whenever I hear Bob Marley's "Don't Worry About a Thing", which seemed effective because you could believe there would be hope to be saved before it is too late, which it is. Well, I like that Willow Smith is also his daughter in the movie - she is named MARLEY, after BOB MARLEY. When did he save everybody? He sacrifices his life by giving away his blood of immunity for a mother & son to survive the mutants. Thanks to that, they are part of a village populated of survivors. Does that make them the main focus? What I will criticise is the pacing (it is slow) & the mutants CGI is not good - it would be better if they they were real actors with prosthetics. See more carson m Aug 25 heartbreaking movie that relies entirely on will smith, to mixed result See more Gary G Aug 17 I read the novel on which this is based when I was a child. That was a long time ago, and while I remember the outline of the story I could not compare movie adaptations to the original. Perhaps this film is best enjoyed if you haven't read the novel, and are evaluating it as it comes at you. I saw Last Man on Earth and Omega man, and wasn't particularly impressed. Personally I found Will Smith's portrayal far more compelling than Price's or Heston's. There were some silly aspects and inconsistencies to this version, but taken as a whole I thought it worked. (Here's one obvious goof: it's supposed to be 3 years after the majority of humanity has been wiped out, yet gasoline is still usable? Not likely.) Where this movie succeeds is examining Nevil's struggle to retain his sanity in a world gone insane. It is a measure of his growing madness when, as the last uninfected man in NYC, he still thinks he can "fix this." This is an entertaining movie, largely thanks to Will Smith. See more Jacopo D @JacDan Aug 12 È un film ben diretto e ben scritto, intrattenente fino all'ultimo e inquietante.
