Alex B @AlexBioni Jul 31 The Thing You're Sucking on Ain't No Piña Colada Inside Man was a big disappointment for me. The dialogue is all over the place, and I could never tell if the movie wanted to be a serious crime thriller or something more playful. There are some genuinely funny one liners, but they kept pulling me out of what should have been a tense bank robbery. I am still not sure how I feel about that tonal balance. I also was not a fan of cutting between the heist and the aftermath since it took away a lot of the tension. The buildup never felt worth the payoff. I did like that the story is not quite what it first appears to be, but after all that setup I left frustrated. I can forgive a few plot holes, but there are simply too many here to ignore. Maybe a second viewing would change my mind, but I am not eager to revisit it. Owen is one of the most pleasant on-screen presences of the 2000s, Foster serves c*nt (strong aura, for the hets) as the most interesting character in the film, and Washington acts on auto pilot. The script and direction don’t offer a big spectacular moment, no major twist happens. It's a solid 7.0. Maybe the main difference is that the world was very different back then. The villain from the 2006 movie, played by Christopher Plummer, would be seen as one of the 'good guys' by the villains of the world I live in 2026. If anything changed in my perception of the movie, it is realizing how different the world is now, how its issues seem harmless to today’s eyes, and how I wish that, in the near future, the world could go back to being a place where being seen as associated with nazism was so undesirable and outrageous that even a billionaire would tremble at the thought of the backlash. . #HBOMax See more David H. @rivrocks Jun 12 Clever and original and well executed. Love the intensity only Clive Owen can give any character. The whole cast convinces in character. Clever, witty, focused, enough action, mystery, intrigue, suspense, emotion, drama and gritty. Unique method of turning a familiar premise on it's head and then some.
