Critics Consensus

Despite its two stellar leads, Into the Night finds director John Landis indulging in far too many gimmicks in lieu of a well-rounded story.

"Into the Night" features cameo appearances by 11 directors, none of whom had the sense to get behind the camera and help the 12th, John Landis. Go to Full Review Variety Staff Variety Apr 10, 2008

Pfeiffer in particular takes the sort of glamorous yet preposterous part that generally defeats even the best actress and somehow contrives to make it credible every inch of the way. Go to Full Review Matt Brunson Film Frenzy Sep 19, 2021

There are a couple of jarring sequences that feel tonally wrong, but, overall, Landis and scripter Ron Koslow keep the picture sure-footed and fleet-footed. Go to Full Review Austin Trunick Under the Radar Dec 13, 2017

Michelle Pfeiffer possui um brilho lindo See more Allan C @RT15713161 Jul 17, 2026 West Coast version of AFTER HOURS Into the Night (1985) *** INTO THE NIGHT is an uneven but thoroughly enjoyable '80s yuppie nightmare, carried by the irresistible chemistry of Jeff Goldblum and Michelle Pfeiffer before they became major stars. John Landis fills the film with quirky detours and memorable cameos, but it's the two leads who make this West Coast answer to AFTER HOURS worth the ride. SEE LETTERBOXED FOR FULL REVIEW See more Nicholas B @RT68283666 Sep 28, 2025 I have seen all of the critics complaining about this or that in the movie, but the bottom line is this: it's a fun movie and a great watch. It's amusing to pick out all of the various cameos of other stars (and directors), but Jeff Goldblum is always fun to watch, and Michelle Pfieffer, as always, lights up the screen. Director John Landis doesn't make bad movies; he knows what he's doing here. While it isn't high art, it's a nice time, with characters you won't forget.
