After carefree teenager Jay (Maika Monroe) sleeps with her new boyfriend, Hugh (Jake Weary), for the first time, she learns that she is the latest recipient of a fatal curse that is passed from victim to victim via sexual intercourse. Death, Jay learns, will creep inexorably toward her as either a friend or a stranger. Jay's friends don't believe her seemingly paranoid ravings, until they too begin to see the phantom assassins and band together to help her flee or defend herself.

Critics Consensus

Smart, original, and above all terrifying, It Follows is the rare modern horror film that works on multiple levels -- and leaves a lingering sting.

I appreciate that Mitchell wanted to make this more existentially dreadful and not confine himself and his characters to working within a set of rules, but... there’s ambiguity, and there’s simply being vague.

It Follows represents a compelling evolution in how studios and audiences can (and should) conceive of its monsters.

No question that the storytelling here is impressive; the story itself, however, is a bit thin.

It Follows feels like a new thing in horror. It feels like a movement toward the conceptual idea of what drives horror. Strip down the overburdened tropes and monsters that make up what horror was for decades, and leave just the essentials.

It's not a bad film at all, and I appreciate that it feels so original and unconventional. But at the same time, I think it has too many unfulfilling moments to fully recommend it. [Full review in Spanish].

Filled to the brim with technical and narrative mastery, David Robert Mitchell’s sophomore feature “It Follows” screams success, both as a horror film and an art form with a voice.

You know when you fast forward through a film and missing nothing, this is one of them. I question the validity of the high ratings. Some appreciate the interesting plot and writing but I say it’s been done so many times before. Lastly, The acting was disappointing also.

Quite possibly the dumbest movie I’ve ever seen. Boring. Weirdly inserted choppy scenes, t*ts galore, and an insanely waterproof arm cast. Of course the critics love it.

Tremenda perra mierda..gasté mis horas viendo esta cagada. El director es un asqueroso y lo único que le gustan las gentes que recomendaron esta película es el nudismo y las ganas de ver niños haciendo el amor. Would never ever recommend this movie to anyone. Straight pedophilia if you enjoy this garbage ass movie.

I’m VERY excited to watch the next movie. The synopsis already amazing, but hey—the SOUND! I’m pretty sure Stranger Things was influenced by this score, riiight? That retro synthwave/electronic sound is so unmistakable.

Interesting concept. Though going overseas regularly may solve the problem.
