Critics Consensus

Monotonously formulaic, Jack Reacher: Never Go Back is one action thriller sequel whose title also serves as a warning.

You are almost willing to forgive the cheesy emotional climax especially when it ends with Cruise's electric smile. This one's for Reacher, Cruise and Child fans alone.

Jack Reacher: Never Go Back is dispiritingly formulaic, retaining much of the first film's swaggering masculinity, but none of its self-awareness.

A bland and generic action flick, not just forgettable after the fact, but during.

Despite the efforts of Cruise and Smulders, things never rise above predictable and/or formulaic.

Exclusively suited for those with a particular interest in this intellectual property, especially given the low-rent quality of the story and production.

A kind of grittier cousin to the Mission: Impossible films, Never Go Back doesnt stray much from the Tom Cruise action formula, but that will be just fine for most.

If you’ve read the books stay away from this Tom cruise vanity project. Tom cannot pull off a weathered, 6’5", 120kg of pure muscle, imposing, stoic army policeman. A he-Man of mythic proportions and Tom is anything but that. The dialogue flicked between nonsensical and uncomfortable in its attempt at humour or heroic one-liners. Screen play was so far off, Reacher is supposed to be untouchable but he was losing fights to pipsqueaks all the way through then a miraculously implausible comeback saves the day then repeat that several times through the movie. It’s like a child’s year 10 drama project.

This is a low-rated movie that I enjoyed way more than the majority of reviewers. It's a decent story, good cast, good suspense, and a good ending. I've watched it twice.

It's not the worse, but the fire and wit from the first movie is just gone. It felt like Cruise was playing a totally different character from Jack Reacher. I hoped too much and had too much expectation. The difference, FOR ME, killed the film.

Not as good as the first movie but not terrible.

I don't like Tom Cruise's performance in this movie—not to mention the script is poorly written.

Don't understand the crappy reviews. I've watched 10 times and never gets old. Good plot, acting, etc. Like the original, think sequel is superior.
