After a series of murders bearing all the markings of the Jigsaw killer, law enforcement officials find themselves chasing the ghost of a man who has been dead for over a decade, and they become embroiled in a new game that's only just begun. Is John Kramer back from the dead to remind the world to be grateful for the gift of life? Or is this a trap set by a killer with designs of his own?

Critics Consensus

Jigsaw definitely won't win many converts to the Saw franchise, but for longtime fans, it should prove a respectably revolting -- if rarely scary -- diversion.

The resulting Grand Guignol will please fans, although the gore is never as groundbreaking as the drowning in pig entrails and reserve bear traps of old.

A marginally better entry into the franchise.

Which brings us to "Jigsaw," which fails for very much the same reasons as "The Mummy" - It was made to launch a franchise rather than because it was actually about something.

Should you see Jigsaw? Probably not unless you’re invested in the franchise. My score is still rotten, but for the first time in a while, this franchise started to show signs of life.

Gorehounds will get their fill, and that's about the limit of Jigsaw's appeal.

Very Solid Movie. Logan Nelson’s a great character and the fact that he was John Kramer’s first apprentice and the plot was great. It’s well worth a watch and it’s a good reachable movie.

Jig Saw (2017) is a 91-minute-long (86-minutes sans end credits) US horror I saw on Netflix in June 2026. OG Saw was ground-breaking. This film has a made-for-TV production values. The sets are so clean, staged, so too are the costumes and make-up. Believability is weak. Even on a small scale: guy in hazmat suit opens a coffin… not wearing a face mask. The ending is a rug-pull caused by editing not story or plot. The budget for this film was $10 million and it recouped $100 million. I am not a franchise fan nor a fan of this film. As a story, as a film, it used red herrings, thirst traps, devious editing to drive intrigue. The SPX and or CGI was good. And, again, it had a made-for-TV or $2-bin feel. The final monologue is an incredible amount of wank. Rewatch? No. Recommend. 3/10.
