Nothing too special but the 3-D effects were fun even though I was only watching it in my home theater! It is kind of funny because there are so many scenes that are obviously in there just to show that it is in 3-D like characters yo-yoing right into the camera lens or throwing something that did not need to beat to be thrown! To me it felt like an Indiana Jones movie if he worked at your local community college. It was a good set up getting to the middle of the Earth, but once they were actually there in the center, I felt like it was rushed a little bit too much. I would have loved to explore more of the prehistoric characters that were down there and the ending was a little bit underwhelming given where they were at. Nonetheless it won’t be a waste of an hour and a half if you watch this, and Brenden Fraser shines as always! See more KarthiK P. @madkarthi Jul 10, 2026 It has awful lighting. Everything looks so much fake. The VFX quality is also really bad. I don't know how much the budget of this film was. Everything is so much boring. It is just a complete waste of time. See more Jack L @RT22102532 Jul 2, 2026 *Journey to the Center of the Earth* is a solidly fun adventure film that I actually think was improved upon by its sequel, with Brendan Fraser bringing his usual infectious charm to the lead role and the story's premise making for an entertaining ride. There are some enjoyable action sequences throughout, and the dynamic between Fraser and Josh Hutcherson keeps the film engaging even when the plot is fairly predictable. The CGI has definitely aged poorly and the film loses a bit of steam as it approaches the climax, but it's a perfect plane movie—which is exactly where I watched it! See more Robert F @RT29345612 Jun 28, 2026 This is just a flat out fun movie! A highly entertaining family-oriented thrill ride that doesn't let up from start to finish. There's nothing deep about the plot, but it really didn't need to be at all. Visually, it still holds up reasonably well after 18 years. Fraser, Hutcherson, and Briem worked quite well together. If they ever re-release this film in theaters, I'd definitely go and see it again. By every metric, this is the perfect family adventure movie. A fun little timepass ride! See more Read all reviews
