Aimless David Rice (Hayden Christensen) has the ability to instantly transport himself to any place he can imagine. He uses that gift to globe-trot, living on money he steals by "jumping" into bank vaults. He's captured by the evil Roland Cox (Samuel L. Jackson), who knows how to keep David from jumping. David escapes and reunites with his high school crush, Millie (Rachel Bilson), then forms an alliance with fellow jumper Griffin (Jamie Bell) and prepares for mortal combat with Cox.

Critics Consensus

Featuring uninvolving characters and loose narrative, Jumper is an erratic action pic with little coherence and lackluster special effects.

An elegantly idiotic sci-fi thriller that initially feels as though it might have derived from Philip K Dick -- but lacks the master's lysergic idiosyncracy.

The disappointments and the inexplicable plot turns kept mounting until I finally surrendered and just admitted it: This was just a goodlooking clunker.

One day, I feel sure, the rich mantle of charisma will descend upon [Hayden Christensen], but Jumper is not that occasion.

I'm still not sure how writers of the calibre of David S. Goyer (Batman Begins), Jim Uhls (Fight Club) and Simon Kinberg (Mr and Mrs Smith) have made such a mess.

I think movie would be rated high if Millie had died horribly

Actually enjoyed the globetrotting cat and mouse component. Hayden, Samuel and Jamie fed enough star power. Nice sci-fi action.

Jumper is good because the teleportation concept is such a strong sci-fi hook. Instant travel anywhere in the world is fun, seductive, and dangerous, and the movie has its best moments when it shows how that power changes action, escape, theft, and everyday life. The global scale gives the film a slick travel-thriller energy, moving quickly across cities, landmarks, and countries. Jamie Bell is easily one of the most interesting parts as Griffin. He brings more personality, edge, and history than David, and he makes the Jumper and Paladin conflict feel more alive. The mythology is thin, though. The idea of Jumpers being hunted by Paladins is interesting, but the movie barely explores it. Hayden Christensen is watchable enough, but David is not as compelling as the power itself. Jumper has good ideas and fun action possibilities, but it feels more like a franchise starter than a complete movie.

4 out of 5 because the ending was too boring and rushed. No excitment to it. But i loved Hayden in it.
