Once-renowned jockey Remo Manfredi (Nahuel Pérez Biscayart) has run out of track. Perpetually inebriated, hopped up on horse drugs, and in hock to a minor mafioso, Remo seems to have a death wish. His girlfriend and fellow jockey Abril (Úrsula Corberó) is pregnant, but more invested in the libidinous equestrian underworld than in their drab domestic existence. Remo's only hope of getting out of debt and starting a new life is riding on Mishima, a thoroughbred specially imported from Japan for his next big race. When Mishima leaps over the fence, Remo winds up in the hospital with a life-threatening concussion. Hunted by the mob and replaced in Abril's bed by the alluring Ana (Mariana Di Girolamo), Remo dons a disguise and finds himself as herself, wandering the streets of Buenos Aires in a striking mink coat and going by the name Dolores. A wild and surreal crime comedy from Luis Ortega (El Angel), Kill the Jockey explores the fluidity of identity, desire, and animal magnetism in a wholly original and unpredictable register.

Película de director joven, con acomodo y plata, que no se la juega. Más bien "se hace el raro", desconectando todo el tiempo la trama de lo que está mostrando. ¿Algo le parece loco, fuera de lugar, disruptivo, pseudo provocador? Lo incluye. No fascina, ni convence ni conmueve. Para jugarse en serio debería contar una historia en serio, que convenza y conmueva a través del mensaje, no a través recurso por el recurso mismo. Mientras tenga miedo al fracaso seguirá haciendo "pelis locas".

A surreal drama about a drug-addicted jockey who loses himself after a mysterious accident blurs reality and identity....Nahuel Pérez Biscayart delivers a haunting, physical performance that anchors the chaos....Visually stunning but emotionally distant, the film drowns in its own symbolism and stylized excess....Its first half is sharp and alive, but the second drifts into abstraction with little payoff....Themes of rebirth, addiction, and fractured self echo with ambition yet lack coherence....A bold, beautiful mess more dream than drama....

This was Argentina’s submission for AAMPAS’ Best Foreign Language Film in 2024. A crafty script combined with excellent production value makes this ninety minutes well worth the watch.

the director tried to make something quirky but instead its a bizarre glorification of toxic masculinity, as well as objectification of disabled/disfigured/injured people for visual shocks. i don't think they understand most of the topics covered in the film, they just think "rude, violent, dirty" makes a good movie all by itself. we can see that his only other successful film is sitting around 60-70% and is described as a shallow depiction of a serial killer without nuance or depth. that same energy seems to have bled into kill the jockey, because it's not funny and i don't know why this guy thinks what's on the screen passes for stylized. he watched reservoir dogs and twin peaks, misunderstood all the jokes, then fooled himself into believing he can make his own version.
