Critics Consensus

The storyline arc may seem a tad familiar to fans of the original, but Kung Fu Panda 2 offers enough action, comedy, and visual sparkle to compensate.

Kung Fu Panda 2 gets a little darker and slushier than the first, but never loses sight of its objective: fun, fun, fun. The animation is outstanding, and the story has enough surprises to make it new.

Where, in short, is this film's personality, or even the characters' personalities, for that matter?

[A] satisfying, if less than sensational, sequel to the funny, charming and action-packed animated feature from 2008.

This time, we have a film that deals with some new themes: “your origins do not define your present or future”, “let go of the past”, or “obsession with revenge brings nothing new with it”. Valuable lessons for the kids, of course. Full review in Spanish.

This sequel doesn't disappoint and explains how Po became the son of a noodle-making gander while Po learns how to find inner peace. While I loved the anthropomorphic animals in the first film, I initially thought the wolves were hyenas.

A cinematic recipe of the hardcore and the heartfelt that, in the hands of the iron chefs DreamWorks Animation has employed to make it, is easy for any age to eat up.

A darker and more emotional sequel that gives Po a much deeper personal story. Lord Shen is a genuinely memorable villain, while the action, animation, humor, and Hans Zimmer's score make the film feel bigger than its predecessor. The story can get a little predictable, but the themes of identity, trauma, and finding inner peace give it surprising emotional weight. A strong sequel with plenty of heart.
