Maksim O @Sphynx Feb 2 Mafia Wars is a frustratingly weak entry in the crime genre that fails to deliver on even the most basic expectations. The characters are flat, generic, and poorly defined, making it difficult to understand their motivations or feel any emotional connection to them. The screenplay only makes things worse: the story is predictable, poorly structured, and filled with worn-out clichés instead of original ideas or meaningful conflict. Dialogue frequently sounds unnatural and empty, draining tension from scenes that should feel dramatic or dangerous. The acting is equally underwhelming, with performances that feel stiff, unconvincing, and lacking any real presence or intensity. Emotional moments fall flat, and confrontations never carry the weight they should. Combined with uneven pacing and a lack of narrative focus, Mafia Wars comes across as an uninspired and forgettable film that adds nothing new to the genre and ultimately feels like a waste of time. See more Victor O @RT45890256 Dec 13 Terry is an ex-convict who thinks that because of good behavior, he’s been let out early; that’s not exactly the case. Because he helped out the brother of a Mafia underboss, he’s forced to help out an undercover Italian carabinieri, and after spending time for dealing drugs in Europe, he’s done with that life and set for obtaining money to return home to the USA. But this is no cakewalk as he must deal with the underboss, a crazed paranoid, with all the dangers that come from being undercover. This was a nice ride. I have to say it’s great seeing Tom Welling act again, and the obligatory, though subtle, Superman references. Big, strong, a tough guy, but a good guy. Cam Gigandet is another heartthrob playing the villain, great. But I must admit I’m totally impressed with actress Cher Cosenza, who is a marvelous actress, truly showing more than just great looks. A modest direct-to-video story that I am happy to enjoy. Directed by an up-and-coming filmmaker, it blends action, suspense, and dramatic tension into a satisfying, albeit familiar, narrative. The story follows Jake Rosetti (Gigandet), a former enforcer for the Italian-American mafia who is reluctantly drawn back into the criminal underworld after his brother is murdered in a gangland hit.
