As a beautiful young woman of pure heart, Maleficent (Angelina Jolie) has an idyllic life in a forest kingdom. When an invading army threatens the land, Maleficent rises up to become its fiercest protector. However, a terrible betrayal hardens her heart and twists her into a creature bent on revenge. She engages in an epic battle with the invading king's successor, then curses his newborn daughter, Aurora -- realizing only later that the child holds the key to peace in the kingdom.

This isn't Sleeping Beauty as seen through the eyes of the wickedest of Disney villains. Instead, it's a Mouse House live-action revisionist fairy tale that inexplicably transforms the malevolent Maleficent into a misunderstood anti-hero.

As a fantasy lover, this film just hit every note for me. It's almost perfect. I loved it and have watched it many, many times. I wish all films were this good, whimsical and fun.

A Maleficent rewatch. How original is Maleficent. I prefer this kinda movies more. A take on the villain of the Sleeping Beauty. Is far more interesting to see in an other light than just making the same movie. Angelina Jolie was incredible, so was Elle Fanning. The three fairy's were funny. But the human kingdom and especially King Stefan I could care less. I loved the darktone of the movie. The world building was beautiful, I loved the creatures. I hope Disney would stop with the live action remakes and instead start making newer and better stories with their known characters. I would prefer newer ideas and stories in general, but I get that people just asked for them but don't show when they come out. Wich is sad!

Uma reinvenção corajosa e muito competente do clássico da Disney, carregada nas costas pelo carisma e atuação imponente de Angelina Jolie. O filme peca por um CGI exagerado e personagens secundárias fracas, mas a subversão da história e o forte coração da narrativa garantem um blockbuster sólido.

Robert Stromberg’s long experience with special effects and production design is evident throughout. This is a movie where the visual design is the main attraction, with the elaborate fantasy world, costumes, makeup, and digital effects carrying more interest than the story itself. The story feels secondary to the look of the film.
