Where the first film suffered from a slow pace due to its age, this version shines with vibrant musical numbers, energetic choreography, and a beautiful fusion of live-action and traditional animation. Although the narrative structure follows very familiar paths, the overflowing charisma of the protagonist and the technical modernization breathe new life into this universe, resulting in much more effective and enchanting entertainment. See more Bongo T @BongoT Jun 2, 2026 Emily Blunt's accent is almost as bad as Van Dyke's was- she can't have studied for the part, and her nasal butchery of RP is grating. Bank's grown son (I forget the name, he was quite forgettable) is also badly cast- also over-acts "posh" and his accent is not quite so bad, but bad nevertheless. Not to be outdone by poor casting choices, the screenwriters also decided to harm the Mary Poppins name. In the original, Mary is magical but Burt is an ordinary man- so why Burt's replacement Jack appears in the children's nursery after lights out is a mystery, as is the children's unfazed reaction to his incongruous entry And Mary Poppins playing a bawdy rough? Absolutely unthinkable. Part of Mary's charm is she is always unflappable, proper and dignified, no matter what the circumstance. So let's have her ham it up like a cockney music hall girl! What fun /s Like so many sequels, can't decide if it's a homage or an original movie and ends up bening neither..avoid!
