Jagdpanzer T @RT44446946 6 days ago 'Midnight in Paris' contains a constant stream of direct references to famous historical figures who happen to be mainly writers, artists, and musicians. The more of these references the viewer understands the more they will like this movie, however the opposite is also likely true. This movie is very sincere, and perhaps overly so, but that's one of the things I like about it. The one thing that hurts the movie is the protagonist's would-be in-laws. They're presented as a cartoonish parody of Bush-era republicans, and regardless of your feelings towards such people or their views it's hard to ignore the obvious strawman tactics. Every time these characters are on screen they break immersion, bring the mood down, and jarringly snap the viewer back to reality. Maybe that was the point though since it is admittedly in keeping with the central theme of the movie and definitely makes you sympathize more with the protagonist more. I'm currently writing a novel myself that takes place in Paris and need movies like this to give me a good idea of what Paris is like. I got recommended this movie by IMDb, and I could proudly say it gave me a wonderful idea of Paris, from the settings to the characters, monuments, landmarks, and the French language. Owen Wilson did an amazing job as the character Gil; as a writer myself, I can relate to Owen Wilson's character (Gil) in many ways, and it bettered my experience watching this movie. I personally enjoyed it and would recommend it! See more Alex B @AlexBioni Jul 19, 2026 Chasing Yesterday Midnight in Paris is a really unique movie that kept me engaged the whole time. It is beautifully shot and reminded me a lot of Before Sunrise. Owen Wilson is great in the lead, and everyone else fits their roles perfectly. By the end, all I wanted to do was eat some cheese, drink a glass of wine, and wander the streets of Paris. My biggest issue is that it drags in places. Some of the dialogue felt a little flat, although I could not always tell if it was the writing or the delivery. I actually liked the name dropping of famous writers and artists at first, but by the twelfth time it started to feel like the Avengers assembling for literature fans, and I found myself rolling my eyes. Overall, I had a really good time with this one. It is an original story that feels different from most movies, and I think it makes for a great date night watch. See more Judah S @Judah3963 Jun 30, 2026 It’s beautifully filmed with a sense of wonder that is not left behind in its opening realization like some of the other wonder filled movies. Midnight in Paris is a ride. See more Junior S. @RT39899143 Jun 26, 2026 Easily one of Woody Allen’s best photographed movies; it’s better to look at than to experience. The movie has a wonderful premise, but completely jettisons its promise by Allen’s use of his most usual go-to’s: relational infidelity and it’s consequences and choices, which he tiredly cross examines yet again in a movie. The entire back end of the movie plays this way, and just feels mired in Déjà vu. If only Allen had avoided his fall-back tropes he would have made one of his best movies, akin to Purple Rose of Cairo in fantasy/reality splitting. See more Read all reviews
