Marco L @decatur555 Aug 12, 2026 Nocturne turns the competitive world of an elite music school into a supernatural battle of ego, jealousy and ambition. Sydney Sweeney works well as Juliet, a talented pianist permanently living in her sister’s shadow and increasingly desperate to prove that she deserves the same recognition. The Faustian element gives the familiar story of artistic rivalry a darker edge: the real horror is not simply the demonic bargain, but how easily competition can turn talent into obsession. Director Zu Quirke has some strong visual ideas, particularly when reality begins to fracture, although the film is often more restrained and predictable than it should be. Still, its mixture of music-school pressure, sibling rivalry and supernatural temptation makes it an effective little horror drama. The script is so bad that you don't understand what the film is actually trying to convey on screen. See more L J @Cracky May 24, 2026 Pretty good! The symbolism is a bit eerie. See more Sal D @JustTheLaw Feb 16, 2026 I came into this movie with very low expectations. While the scripts’s novelty was likitrr, I thought it was adequate as were the performances and direction. Sydney Sweeney does stand out. See more TheMovieSearch R @TheMovieSearch Jan 25, 2026 Nocturne is a surprisingly effective psychological thriller that offers a unique twist on artistic ambition and competition. By using music as the backbone of its tension, the film creates an unsettling atmosphere where creativity slowly turns into obsession. The story explores how the pursuit of excellence can become destructive, presenting competition as something that corrodes identity rather than inspires it. That approach gives the film a darker edge and helps it stand apart from more conventional thrillers. Sydney Sweeney delivers a strong and layered performance, fully committing to the emotional and psychological descent of her character. She brings depth and intensity that anchors the film and keeps it grounded The screenplay is well constructed, despite a few minor flaws. Once the narrative hooks you, it maintains momentum and steadily builds tension without relying on cheap scares Direction is confident and controlled, balancing tone and pacing to keep the story cohesive See more Alain E @AlainE Nov 12, 2025 It never really ignites. Sweeney is doing the best she can with a weak script. Like in other movies she avoids using her physical assets. For example here is her sister who plays the piano showing cleavage. Although the ending is ambiguous, I believe the valid version is that she plays the concert well. If she had fallen on the metal sign someone of the people moving around would have noticed.
